I am beginning this article acknowledging the following: Yes it was an abbreviated Spring Training, and Yes it is the first start of the year. With that being said, pulling a pitcher after only 88 pitches with a live no-hitter through 7 IP you have got to be kidding me. How does Manaea not lose his mind in the dugout after receiving that news, or was this potential scenario discussed and agreed upon prior to the game. However, even in that case how do you not run him back out there for the 8th inning on a short leash and see what happens especially after what occurred the night before when Yu Darvish was relieved and the bullpen blew the game.

If Manaea was ok with decision at any level then he is soft and I would never trust him with the ball in a big game situation. First game or not a no-hitter puts you on a potential track to baseball immortality and a 7 IP is forgettable. This is why people are not in love with baseball like the older generations were. This should have been a potential cut in TV moment on San Diego sports channels, FS1, MLB Network, and the 4-letter, instead it was hugs and GG’s in the Dugout. Weak Sauce!
