Baseball April 10, 2022 Recap
Lets focus on a few 2nd year players who have had pretty good starts to the 2022 season in this recap article.
First is Andrew Vaughn for the White Sox: Is 127 games during the 2021 season he managed 15 HR, a 0.2 WAR and striking out in roughly 25% of his at-bats. Now it is way too early in the 2022 season to have a sample size large enough to determine any statistical improvement, but through 3 games this season he has 10 ABs, 2-bombs and no Ks. It may not statistically relevant, but an early hot start to a season with a stacked line-up around you is a good thing in this case for a young hitter.
Second is Dylan Carlson for the St. Louis Cardinals: When the three hitters following you in the lineup are Goldschmidt, O’Neill and Arenado, it is your job to get on base and score as a lead-off man. That is what Carlson has been able to this year even with a high strikeout rate. He has an OPS of 1.029 in the first series of the season and has scored 4 times. If he can cut down the strike out to BB ratio he can have a very positive impact on the team this year and provide RBI opportunities to the next 3 in the lineup.
